From the recording Hill City

After my Dad passed away, I wrote this song partially about him making his rounds to see his friends and partially about summers at the pool and all the landmarks and small towns that surrounded Hill City while growing up

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
This old town just ain't the same
Without you in it
We sure miss your smile
Driving down to make your rounds
See all those faces
All those places

[Chorus]
Ott was out north of town
Frazier had all those cars on his ground
Jack had the coldest beer in town
But when you made it home
The greatest place you'd know
When you stepped inside
McFarland Drive

[Verse 2]
It was a rocky road
Lots of pebbles sometimes hurt our soul
Scorched our feet walking to the pool
A thousand times we made that trip
Got a Chico-Stick or a Fun Dip
Did some gainers and a few backflips

[Chorus]
But when we made it home
The greatest place we'd know
Just like stepping inside
McFarland Drive

[Guitar Solo]
(Instrumental)

[Verse 3]
Out past the city limits
Tindle Hill and the old sandpit
Graham County we knew every inch of it
Took the backroads to Bogue
Morland and Penokee
Out to Webster to water ski

[Chorus]
And then we came back west
Saw you lying there in your Sunday best
Took you out and laid you to rest
But when you made it home
The greatest place you'd know
Just like stepping inside
McFarland Drive

[Outro]
McFarland Drive
McFarland Drive
McFarland Drive
